It’s Wednesday! Halfway through the week!
I am walking out of my apartment in a suit to attend my school’s career fair today. There are a few companies hiring supply chain grad students, so I have to give it my all today. I have printed out copies of my polished resume, have business cards, and have researched the companies. These events always freak me out a little bit. I always feel like the person in front of me is better than me. Ugh…I have some insecurity issues I need to fix. I’m really hoping I get some leads from this fair. I graduate in May and so I need a job 🙂 . I have pretty good leadership and work experience. Graduated with a 3.89 GPA from my undergrad, and I have a 3.8+ GPA in my grad coursework. I’m bilingual, and people say I have a great personality. I’m not trying to brag here, I’m just pumping myself up for the race!!!
These career fairs are always maddening. So many students! You only have a few seconds to grab their attention. Have your elevator speech prepared, and make sure you have a firm handshake.
Two ways you know you have an in with a recruiter is if they give you their contact information, and if they take your resume and write down details about you. If you do get their information, email them thanking them for the time they took to talk to you, remind them about your great qualities, and attach your resume.
Wish me luck!!!
Is anyone out there looking for a job or recently landed a job? What tips can you give to students or in transition workers?
P.S. This is not my first career fair, but it is the first serious career fair where I need to land THE JOB. The pressure is on!
